The Java Message Service ("JMS") is the messaging element of the J2EE specification. JMS is an essential tool for building enterprise applications by providing a standardized interface for enabling communications between J2EE-compliant applications, Enterprise Java Beans, and application servers.
The JMS API provides a common way for Java programs to create, send, receive and read an enterprise messaging system's messages. Enterprise Message ServiceT ("EMS") software by TIBCO is an extremely robust implementation of the JMS specifications that provices very high-performance and is acknowledged as one of the top leaders in the industry. For expanded integration capabilities by its users, TIBCO EMS provides three flavors of client libraries, namely pure-Java, C and C#.

DocuTell, Inc. realizes that many existing and potential users of JMS have investments in both human capital as well as large installed base of enterprise software packages in PERL. For maximum integration between these packages and the JMS system, DocuTell, Inc. has created the PERL API("PAPI") for JMS. PAPI enables the corporation to leverage its installed base of packages and provides a direct path to JMS for the compnay's existing investment in human capital with PERL expertise.

PAPI versioning follows closely the version numbering used by TIBCO JMS and currently stands at version 3.1.2. The current version of PAPI implements the vast majority of the C client library provided by TIBCO JMS ver. 3.1.2. For best compatibility and ease of use, PAPI uses naming conventions similar to popular PERL packages while closely following the C naming convention adopted by TIBCO. This makes it quite familiar to PERL users and promotes ease of use and adoptability. PAPI includes detailed documentation of all included functions, those corresponding to the JMS API as well as additional ones that provide casting between different types for maximum ease of use by the PERL programmers.
