When you ask the experts about future of software development in US you hear many opinions. Some optimists believe that offshore companies fail big time and the work will come back. While others say weakening dollar at home and increasing rupee will make it more cost effective to develop locally.

This is all wishful thinking. There will be lot of failures. There is a huge turnover problem in India. Most of the developers have less than two years of experience. However the turnover will settle down and green developers will mature.

Weakening dollar is offset by additional work hours . The margins will be down but that will not slow down the exodus of development work. Just look at IBM, Accenture and HP. These companies will have more Indian employees than US based employees in year or so.

So what should an average Joe developer in US supposed to do. He or she has to move up the chain. One has to become a better developer, customer facing business analyst or an architect.
